Old into new...

We all have jewellery that we no longer wear, or perhaps something we have inherited that isn’t quite to our taste – don’t let it go to waste or gather dust, here at Rings by Design we can help you explore options available to turn your old jewellery into something new that you will cherish and wear with pride.

There are several options for upcycling existing jewellery:

Simply melting the existing metal down and starting again. (Be aware that for a good quality cast, sufficient metal is needed not just for the new item but for the ‘button’ which ensures the mould fits correctly. At the end this can be returned to you, or traded for scrap.)

Using the stones from an existing piece of jewellery and casting them into a new, more wearable piece is a lovely way to ensure your new design has sentimental value.

Sometimes all that’s needed is for the current item to be reworked, and whether that be resizing or some extra tweaking, our time served jeweller can advise you on what can and can’t be done.

"Both of us had rings that were passed down to us. We had them melted together and formed into new rings for our wedding. We love the thought that a bit like the people in a marriage much loved items with separate histories were blending together to form something new and beautiful for the future" - Ann & Stephen, Sunderland

“I inherited some rings from my Mum which had beautiful diamonds but were in yellow gold settings that were a little old fashioned for me. I didn’t really know what to do with them. Rings By Design did a free consultation & then a CAD drawing of the design we decided on. I love my new rings and wear them every day now.” – Helen, Whickham

When Chris announced he was planning to get married his Dad offered him the wedding ring that he had been given by his own father. At the same time his fiance Toni inherited a ring from her Great Nan. Both rings were a little too wide for modern tastes so they asked Rings y Design to lath the sides of Toni's ring to reduce the width and cut the ring Chris inherited to make two new rings, one of which he presented back to his Dad at the wedding.

'It feels great to wear something which was passed down through the generations and Dad was so surprised when we gave him his ring. He was huffed to bits" - Chris, Sunderland

"I was touched when Mam said I could have Grandads ring if I wanted it for my wedding band but it was the wrong size and a signet ring which wasn't really what I wanted. Adding some of the metal to a new ring gave me the best of both worlds. a style I'm comfortable with but with extra sentimental value". - Stuart, Sunderland
